Pediatric Dentistry in Whittier

Top Rated Pediatric Dentist Near Whittier

Hacienda Pediatric Dentistry is proud to be home to one of the top rated pediatric dentists in San Gabriel Valley. Our pediatric dental specialist, Dr. Audrey Sheu, comes from a family with a medical background, so she has had a passion for her field since she was young. Dr. Sheu completed her degree in biology and psychology at UCLA in hopes of becoming a dentist. She then completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery at the University of Maryland and Loma Linda School of Dentistry. After practicing general dentistry for two years, she decided she wanted to specialize in pediatric dentistry and returned to Loma Linda Hospital to train in the subject and refine her skills.

Dr. Sheu is a pro at what she does – treating patients and preparing them to practice great dental habits in the future. As a psychology student in her undergraduate program, Dr. Sheu was able to learn about how and why children behave as they do, giving her the ability to communicate with children in an emotionally supportive way. At her practice, she emphasizes patient education, so her patients have the tools to maintain strong, healthy teeth on their own.

Not only is Dr. Sheu great with kids, she’s also an excellent doctor who is always trying to improve her practice. To ensure she is always performing to the best of her ability, she has made a commitment to continuing education and learning. Currently, she is a part of the following dental associations:

  • American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry
  • California Society of Pediatric Dentistry
  • Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry
  • American Dental Association
  • California Dental Association

Dr. Sheu is also a board-certified pediatric dentist, meaning she has passed rigorous oral and clinical exams that assure her knowledge and skills in pediatric dentistry exceed expectations. Not every pediatric dentist completes this process, but those who do prove they are more than well prepared to provide dental treatment for patients.

About the Whittier Community

Despite all that the beautiful city of Whittier has to offer, there are few places where families can find a specialized pediatric dentistry for their children. Luckily, Hacienda Pediatric Dentistry is close by! Our pediatric dentist provides all the same services to her Whittier patients that she does to her local ones.

Dr. Sheu has devoted much of her life into giving back to the community. She has participated in Give Kids a Smile Day and Clinic with a Heart to provide services to patients who need dental care but may not be able to afford it. While her volunteer efforts may have started in Hacienda Heights and Whittier, she has continued to expand them by traveling to Central and South America to provide urgent dental care to the indigenous people of those countries as well.

Tips for Whittier Patients

Before coming to the pediatric dentist from Whittier, there are plenty of ways to prepare! For kids, sitting in a chair for over thirty minutes with a stranger looming over can be quite frightening. However, it doesn’t have to be! There are ways to get your child ready and excited to see the dentist. To make your visit as pleasant as possible, we have a few tips for both new and returning patients.

  • Bring entertainment for the car ride! Whether it takes you five minutes or fifty minutes to get to the dentist, kids can get restless in the car. By letting your child play a game, eat a snack, or watch a show on the way over, you can get them to relax before seeing the pediatric dentist.
  • Show your child what the dentist is. There are tons of books and TV shows that depict the dentist in a positive light. If your child understands what’s to come, they will probably be a lot more prepared to see the dentist.
  • After the appointment, take your child out for a reward! There are tons of yummy restaurants or fun activities in Whittier that will motivate your child to see the dentist.
